Love is an anchor, it
reels us in.
Love is an anchor, it
keeps us afloat.
Love is an anchor
it keeps us above the darkness
it keeps us in the light.
I’ve been tempted by things
tempted by forces
with their bright lights, their common phrases
Come with me they say
They allure me, promise me something, glamorous and glorified
It takes a second but,
When I know it’s not true
I anchor in.
I don’t want to get lost in your ocean
Your ocean of strangeness, of lostness
Even with the glorified, the glamorous.
I don’t want to outcast
I don’t want to be above
I don’t want to ridicule.
So to reel myself in
I remember the love.
Bring it up from my past, I bring with me my anchor
Pull it up from the ship and set it down solid
Keeping me here
sturdy, solid.
